Moose Fest…race results, party report, and some cool pictures

Just got back from the Moose Festival weekend.  I’m actually writing this as most people are still driving back from the Moose Fest.   It was a solid weekend, starting with a great party on friday, followed by a sweet race, then another party pn saturday, and finally some more good boating on Sunday.  The Race Results and more pictures are posted inside.

Warming Up for the Moose Race

This past weekend northern New York was blessed with the some good water and some amazing weather on the Moose River. There was a huuuge posse of local boaters, at least twenty of us. The funny thing was we all decided to paddle together.

Dominica Paddling

I just got back to the states from a sweet paddling trip to Dominica. Not to be confused with the Dominican Republic, Dominica is a small country in the Southern Caribbean. It the Island where they filmed Priates of the Caribbean. It is roughly the size of New York City, but it has over 300 rivers and a peak elevation of 5,000 feet. Naturally, we decided to go check out the rivers and waterfalls. I went with 3 other paddlers and a writer/photographer from Outside Magazine to see what we could find.

British Freestyle Championships and Peak UK Challenge Final

Well another weekend has flown by along with another event here in the UK. This time it was the British Freetstyle Championships held at Nottingham which was also the final of the 2006 Peak UK White Water Challenge Series.

Team Pyranha had a fairly srong showing in the British Champs with James Barnes making it through to the Semis of the Mens K1. Ben White came in 2nd in the squirt after an unlucky final ride in the knockout and I came in 2nd in the C1s. Richard Brooks did well but didn’t quite live up to his recent form placing just outside the cut for the semis.

Last days of summer

Automn is slowly sneeking into the alps, but there are still some fun rivers to
run. The last two weekends I found the time to drive down there. We were blessed
with lots of sunshine and quite high waterlevels on the Ötztaler and Venter
Ache.

Green Race Training

Hi y’all. I dug up an old Pyranha friend that some of you might remember–the Creek280. Remember when it was a short boat? Well, now its considered a long boat and I plan on racing the Green in it this year. I was really afraid of it at first because it seemed so long and pointy, but I was actually really surprised at how well it handled. I think it will be the perfect boat for me to race in–its very fast and stable without being so long its unweildy. I usually paddle a small Burn (which I agree with DMP on–its the best most ingenious boat ever and I love it!), but I have made the transition to the Creek280 for training, only to make the switch again in New York next week to the Ammo…Thanks Pyranha for so many excellent fun kayaks to paddle and keep me happy!

So the Green’s not running…

but here at the Pyranha warehouse some of us still found a way to capture some quality carnage! Out and about in our PYRANHA RANGER doing some fishin’ down behind the Kayak Depot on the French Broad river.

Our fishin’ hole down by the KAyak Depot had a sweet seal launch spot for the canoe.

Burn Baby Burn

It has been a wonderful summer and fall is upon us in the southeast and I am so happy to be paddling the Burn. I absolutely love this boat and I just wanted to share with everyone what a fine creeking craft this boat is. I paddled the micro but was between sizes then went to the H2 but it just wasn’t the boat for creeking then I went on to the H3-245 where I was happy but was between the 235 and 245 and then-THE BURN. The small fits me perfectly and is so manuverable, stable and super fun on the creeks and rivers. I have introduced the small burn to many ladies that are looking for a creek boat and it has been a huge hit. The ladies finally have a creek boat that fits!!! Just wanted to say thanks to the boys at Pyranha for the BURN!~!
