Norway Part I – The Return

It’s been a while since I’ve been on here!

With last season in the UK being so utterly rubbish I’ve been grabbing boating sessions as and when I can. Which is exactly why Rich Taylor, Myself and some friends decided to head for some summer creeking action in Norway.

Norway

Just returned from a kayakers ultimate smash and grab holiday. We unfortunately arrived to late to take part in the Sjoa festival but it looked to be a great success and one to look out for next year. With only 7 days we maximised our water time and with everything high it wasn’t hard to find rivers, just difficult to pick from the number of outstanding sections in the Sjoa area. The weather was typically wet but the Sjoa kayak camp provided excellent shelter. With budget airlines providing cheap flights all over Europe I can see me becoming a fan of smash and grab holidaying.

Alder Creek & The Kayak Shed

imgp1124

This week we drove south to the Portland area.  The first stop was Alder Creek kayaks. This was our next  video showing and we ended having a great turn out for the movie.  Hood River was our next stop.  On Saturday, we met at the Kayak Shed with a few locals from the area to paddle the Middle White Salmon.  It was a good paddle with some good folks.  Thanks for coming.  Here are some photos…… Read the rest of this entry »

Canada Eh

For the month of June and a little of July, I was in Canada for the Keener Class.  I went for three weeks and was the only Keener girl there and along with that I was one of the few with Pyranha boats.  🙂  At the start of the class I got to see the Ottawa at 15 with Bus Eater and at the end I saw the Ottawa at around 1.  I loved surfing left side Phills and right side horseshoe.  We learned how to tie knots and how to repel.  We also had a photo and video class and I am currently working on making a video of it so when I get I will post it so everyone can see the mighty Ottawa!!!  =D

But I do have some photos of me on the Ottawa and the group that picked me up…….

My First Vallecito Runs – Why haven’t I been here before?

Boofing Fuzzy Bunny – one of Vallecito’s classic drops. Paddler: Chris Menges. Photo: Kevin Kuuskvere.

I have always had an excuse for not making it to Vallecito during its season even though I only live 4 hours away and I’ve been paddling clas V in Colorado for the past 6 years. It’s too far. There is good stuff running closer. The crew is going elsewhere. We have no guide. Let’s run Lime again….and many other lame excuses. After finally getting on Vallecito this season, I definitely have to concur that it is in fact the most quality mile of boating in the state. Follow the link to the rest of the story for more pictures…

Bex Soca

Bex leading the way on the Soca

It’s been a few weeks since Bex and I packed up the van and left the rivers of the French Alps, and it’s been a busy few weeks.  Starting with a week of work and play in Slovenia, we met up with Chris and Tom at the Soca and had a fantastic time coaching during the days with a  great group and getting a few cheeky runs in on the Trnovo to Kobarid section in the evening.   Read the rest of this entry »

Planes, Trains and …..er….Vans!

With the end of the school year, I found myself with a couple of mid week days free so a plan was hatched with fellow Pyranha Team paddler Dave Fairweather to sample a few rivers in the North Alps. After flying into a small airport in the south of Germany, Dave and Bex picked me up and we made the drive over to Upper Bavaria.

The plan was to do the 4 classic runs in the area, nearly 40 km of grade 3 (with a few harder rapids) and a lot of driving in between rivers, in one day. First up was the Rissbach, a grade 3 river with two grade 4 rapids.

Next up was the wonderful Upper Isar, which you can only access by Taxi. This provided a nice scenic paddle, that consisted of pleasant and completely straight forward low volume grade 3.

Volcano ride

The first week of may, i was in Cap Vert to run …a volcano !

It’s not a joke. Since two years me and my friends organize this adventure.

40949-9891

My first goal was to down it with the snowboard slalom french champion, Camille De faucompret. A fucking goor ride! And the second, brake a speed record.Unfortunatly, after tree attent. My REV was craked !

– 60km/h, not very fast but so dangerous.

fogo-2

To stop my run, after tree attent, i had only one solution to stop my speed. In rock place…

70 m in this rocks was the last solution. You know why the boat is dead…

A film is coming. The teaser is here.
