Fall in Northern New York

Fall is my favorite season in New York.  Every weekend in September and October there is a great class IV/V dam controlled river to paddle on (thanks Chris Koll, Pete Skinner, and American Whitewater).  I kicked off the fall dam release season with runs on the Raquette River and Moshier section of the Beaver.

Saturday I found myself doing lap after lap on the Raquette.  I just could not stop it was too much fun.  Sunday I ran the Moshier section of the Beaver River, which is the gem of the Beaver river system.  Sunday was the only day the Moshier section will run all year so I motivated for 3 laps down the 4 mile run.  Monday I went back to the Raquette for another 4 laps.

I only got a couple of pictures because I was too busy paddling.

Next week it’s on to the Eagle section of the Beaver.  Yahoo !

Ottawa World Cup Photos

Here are some pictures from the team at the first event of the first ever World Cup of freestyle kayaking, held at Garberator on the Ottawa river.
WC1-jared

Despite paddling injured, Jared Seiler threw some big moves for the crowd and finished 42nd

WC1-c1blunt

In the C-1 class, I took 6th place, missing the finals by one place. Considering that last year at the Ottawa rodeo, I missed the wave all three times in C-1, I’m pretty stoked with my finish.

Road trippin’ European Style

Some people reckon that the West coast of North America is the best kayaking road trip you can do, but for me the best bang for your buck is the European tour- starting in Corsica, working up through Slovenia, Italy and France to the mecca of Norway.

My season began in Corsica in April, through to Slovenia and France in May and June before arriving in Norway in July. Happy days!

Norway is definately one of the most incredible countries on earth, awesome whitewater in a wilderness environment. This year we didn’t make it up to the Arctic circle, but we saw some beautiful places all the same.

World Cup of Freestyle!

Hey Guys, The world cup series starts tomorrow here on the Ottawa River. There are competitors from all over the world! Water levels have been ideal for the Garberator wave.
People have been paddling 24/7 with lights set up on the Garb wave. Garb is a great place to showcase the new arial and combo moves. Canadian team trials were held on Tuesday with some of the best paddling ever seen in competition. Should be a great weekend. Stay tuned for updates.

BC An Amazing Adventure

Ive just got back from a fantastic trip to British Columbia with the boys from Fat Cats Productions. What a adventure, amazing water, scetchy information, cashed cars and  the odd angry local. Off to help out with the National youth Series here in the UK this weekend as I’m not confident in Jamie’s water. We’ll see.

Its not over yet!!

Up here in Norway, its dry, soooo, dry. It might look like it is going to rain heaps any minute, but no,, not on us. We have had another record summer, but after a record snow-lessness winter all the water has run off.
