We have returned to Italy this weekend to find water in the rivers thanks to a little rain followed by a lot of sun. Dave hollins decided to go for an early run on the upper Ayasse this morning providing some fantastic entertainment for the locals and the camera. take a look for yourselves!!

I got to jump in the Z-one and take it to my favorite spot, Holtwood dries. The Z-one is a sister to the inazone and a step back to the days of longer playboats. I had a blast in my new river runner/ playboat, it is very fast and stable. The Z-one plays like you would expect from the Varun very loose and able to cartwheel with old school style. But this boat is not limited to only the old school it can flip turn and blunt like a champ. I give this boat a big thumbs up. Stop buy your local Pyranha dealer and check this thing out. I think you will like it. The Z-one just one more great boat from Pyranha. Here is a short clip

Any boaters on this side of the pond will have noticed that the last few months have been exceptionally poor for getting out boating. Last weekend I’d all but given up hope – not even checked the forecast for rain – but took boats along to help out with safety at a swimming event on Saturday in the Lake District.
The event went without hitch, but as the weather deteriorated (or improved, from a kayakers perspective) over the rest of the day, things started looking promising for a cheeky blast down something first thing in the morning.
The Duddon is one of the Lake District’s gems, and although the levels were on the low side, it was awesome to be back in a boat and getting some river time in before this summers big trip!
(Apologies for the low-qual pics – my SLR is broken so am resorting to a waterproof compact for the time being.)
Last night Facebook was full of comments from other boaters who’d also made the most of the rain… the most jealousy inducing being a few pics from some of the Kayak Venezuela expedition team hitting gold in Scotland (see below pic from Sam Sawday). Check out their blog for more about the lead-up to their trip.

Though the grapevine we heard that this creek running out of Forbestown, CA was claimed by a long time Cali boater to be “the best thing going.” Hearing this we happily made plans for the mission. All we knew was the name of the take-out and the put-in. Can’t deny it was a good adventure. But, whether or not it was “the best thing going” at the time is up to boater discretion.

The first few days have flown by, the weather is fantastic and other than the low water levels in the Alps this year things are going well.
We kicked off the trip by taking the new Loki out for a spin on the local rafting run.
The next two days were spent in support of Gravita Zero and the Val Sessia Boater X in Scopello.
Follow the Van Tour on facebook for more info or check back soon to find out how things go in Switzerland.
