Pyranha Team members and friends at the Green Race 2006 (with pictures)

I was stoked to see so many Pyranha team members out there racing and see so many Burns tearing it up! The Green Race was a huge success this year with a record breaking 126 racers!
We are very lucky to have such a perfect river to have an event—classic class V rapids, no portages, reliable water, and access for those who want to watch the action.

High Fashion and Old School Boats – The Tyne Tour 2006

The weekend just passed saw Jamie and myself head over to Hexham, Northumberland for the annual Tyne Tour to show off Pyranha’s fleet of demo boats. With over 1000 paddlers turning up there was lots of hardcore socialising to be done.

We ended up enjoying ourselves so much in the bustling trade stand area that we never quite made it onto the water, but as anyone who has been to the event before knows, its not really about the boating. I don’t know how we managed to fit it all in, handing out demo boats, answering questions, meeting up with friends from all over the country and beer drinking but we did and Jamie even managed to find some time to go kit shopping…

Jamie Burbeck goes old school
Jamie has recently been inspired by Trinny and Susannah’s “What Not to Wear”. He felt that the Tyne Tour was the perfect place to get inspiration for his new look.

Wet Wet West Coast Scotland…

The Annual Scottish Canoe show in Perth, Scotland bought the ideal opportunity for me to hook up and boat with Scottish local paddler Cam Allan for a couple of days. It also gave Cam chance to put the medium sized Ammo through its paces.

Holtwood action

Well the rain has brought the Susquehanna river up and the Holtwood section has gotten some use. Holtwood is a great spot and everchanging the hydro dam can change the water level several feet in just a few minutes. This area serves up some great rides. check out

“1st Sick Line Extreme Race” in Oetz

Hi!

Last weekend the 1st Sick Line Extreme Race was held on the infamous Wellerbruecke part of the Oetz in Austria. It was a protest event in order to stop the plans of a local hydropower company to dam the river. 45 top paddlers from 7 nations took part in the two  races, one sprint and one slalom run. Both times were added in order to find a winner, who in the end was Claus Suchanek, 2nd Thilo Schitt and 3rd Michel Herde. In the very close result (the first three were within one second!), I was able to finish on 6th place, which I’m quite happy about, as I had to roll once at the bottom drop in my sprint run. Altogether it was a great event that hopefully will be continued to be held every year now.

West Coast Afternoon mission….

The wild west coast of New Zealand is real adventure boating. An afternoon boating is often a multi-sport experience. Hokitika local Tim Abbott and his brother Mike, hit the Styx at nice levels.

Big Day on the Raven Fork

The Raven Fork is a beautiful class V+ tributary of the Oconaluftee river located just outside of the Cherokee Indian Reservation in North Carolina. Much of the run flows through the Great Smokey National Park on the border of Tenessee and North Carolina. The take out is on the reservation at the home of Emanuel, a great friend to the kayakers who come there. The scenery on the run is unbelieveable, and if you ever get the chance to look around and focus on anything other than the continuously steep pool drop rapids, you can really feel the natural beauty! REad more and check out some pictures from the run….
