Overall, the series brought in several new paddlers, and I absolutely loved seeing so many familiar faces, along with new ones, throughout the events. Many of the young paddlers who attended the events made new friends from across the UK, and it was exciting to see these friendships grow over the series.

The University of Bristol Canoe Club’s fundraiser, ‘Get F****d For Fitz!’, successfully raised £2,200, with £300 donated to the RNLI. Celebrating Jon Fitzsimmons’ legacy, the event fostered camaraderie, safety training, and leadership among members. Proceeds will fund further Whitewater Safety training, emphasizing the importance of preparedness in paddling and club unity.

The British Universities Kayaking Expeditions have taken place every two years (with a break for COVID) since 2005. No rain makes the weekend a lot more labour-intensive, so it was with enormous relief that this year the rain gods were smiling on us!
