Last weekend I&#8217;d all but given up hope &#8211; not even checked the forecast for rain &#8211; but took boats along to help out with safety at a swimming event on Saturday in the Lake District.<\/p>\n<p>The event went without hitch, but as the weather deteriorated (or improved, from a kayakers perspective) over the rest of the day, things started looking promising for a cheeky blast down something first thing in the morning.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"duddon2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pyranha.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/P5220019-pts.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px initial initial\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pyranha.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/P5220019-pts.jpg\" alt=\"duddon2\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Duddon is one of the Lake District&#8217;s gems, and although the levels were on the low side, it was awesome to be back in a boat and getting some river time in before this summers big trip!<\/p>\n<p><em>(Apologies for the low-qual pics &#8211; my SLR is broken so am resorting to a waterproof compact for the time being.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"duddon1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pyranha.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/P5220007-pts2jpg.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"attachment wp-att-7632 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.pyranha.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/P5220007-pts2jpg.jpg\" alt=\"duddon1\" width=\"700\" height=\"346\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Last night Facebook was full of comments\u00c2\u00a0from other boaters who&#8217;d also made the most of the rain&#8230; the most jealousy inducing being a few pics from some of the <a title=\"Kayak Venezuela \/ Uniyaker\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kayakvenezuela.co.uk\">Kayak Venezuela<\/a> expedition team hitting gold in Scotland<em> (see below pic from Sam Sawday)<\/em>.
