Day Monday saw the first ever Raquette River Race.\u00c2\u00a0 For years paddlers have fantasized about how sweet a race on this northern gem would be.\u00c2\u00a0 It wasn&#8217;t until the five 2 nine crew stepped up that it actually happened.\u00c2\u00a0 When six Americans and and six Canadians showed up, we realized we had a real international barn burner on our hands.\u00c2\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"raquetterace1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pyranha.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/raquetterace1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" Stone Valley section of the Raquette River located waaaay upstate New York has quickly been gaining notariety as one of the East&#8217;s most difficult recreational whitewater releases.\u00c2\u00a0 The river drops a solid 200 feet in a little under a mile cascading over 7 distinct rapids.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"raquetterace6\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pyranha.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/raquetterace6.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"attachment wp-att-6176 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pyranha.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/raquetterace6.thumbnail.jpg\" alt=\"raquetterace6\" width=\"400\" height=\"266\" solid American team of speedsters\u00c2\u00a0showed up with names like Geoff Calhoun, Adam Herzog, and Clay Wright.\u00c2\u00a0 The Canadian\u00c2\u00a0crew from Ottowa led by\u00c2\u00a0Phillip Kompass, Geoff Boyd, Mike Kobzik, and Mike McKay knew exactly what they were up against.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"raquetterace8\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pyranha.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/raquetterace8.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"attachment wp-att-6177 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pyranha.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/raquetterace8.thumbnail.jpg\" alt=\"raquetterace8\" width=\"400\" height=\"266\" end it was sheer domination by the Americans.\u00c2\u00a0 Clay came in with the best time,\u00c2\u00a0 soon followed by Geoff Calhoun, and myself to round out the U.S. sweep of the podium.<\/p>\n<p><a
