{"id":1561,"date":"2007-07-30T13:43:00","date_gmt":"2007-07-30T12:43:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pyranha.com\/blog\/paddler-lifestyle-articles\/myoung\/the-speeder-wins-again\/"},"modified":"2007-07-30T13:43:00","modified_gmt":"2007-07-30T12:43:00","slug":"the-speeder-wins-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pyranha.com\/blog\/the-speeder-wins-again\/","title":{"rendered":"The Speeder Wins Again"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"left\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pyranha.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/07\/speeder1.jpg\" title=\"speeder1.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pyranha.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/07\/speeder1.jpg\" title=\"speeder1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pyranha.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/07\/speeder1.thumbnail.jpg\" alt=\"speeder1.jpg\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\u00c2\u00a0This weekend was the Deerfield River Festival.\u00c2\u00a0 They tried a new event\u00c2\u00a0this year.\u00c2\u00a0 It was well organized by Zoar Outdoor Center&#8217;s Fergus Coffey.\u00c2\u00a0 The competition was a mass start down the Deerfield River, a run up the steep take-out hill, and a 8 mile bike ride.\u00c2\u00a0 The course was short, I figured it would take me a little under an hour to do the whole thing, and I knew it was going to hurt.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>After passing a few people right the start I made my way down the river as fast as I could go.\u00c2\u00a0 Fergus was on my tail the entire time putting the pressure on, and making me go faster.\u00c2\u00a0 When I reached the take-out of the river I ran up the trail threw my boat down, took my gear off, and started running.\u00c2\u00a0 At this point my heart rate must have been about 190.\u00c2\u00a0 Fergus actually caught up to me in the beginning of the run but quickly figured out that he couldn&#8217;t keep the pace all the way up the hill.\u00c2\u00a0 As I got to my bike and started riding away I looked behind me to see some people finishing up the hill by walking, and I knew the race was mine.\u00c2\u00a0 I gave the bike everything I had and crossed the finish line at45:11, finishing about 5 minutes before the second place competitor.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0I finished up the weekend with a few more Speeder laps on the Dryway.\u00c2\u00a0 There was a whole posse of paddling around in obnoxiosuly long kayaks.\u00c2\u00a0 We found out that not only do long boats go fast, they are really fun to do attainments with.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0I&#8217;m off to the Northwest tonight.\u00c2\u00a0 It should be awesome.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pyranha.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/07\/speeder2.jpg\" title=\"speeder2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pyranha.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/07\/speeder2.thumbnail.jpg\" alt=\"speeder2.jpg\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0This weekend was the Deerfield River Festival.\u00c2\u00a0 They tried a new event\u00c2\u00a0this year.\u00c2\u00a0 It was well organized by Zoar Outdoor Center&#8217;s Fergus Coffey.\u00c2\u00a0 The competition was a mass start down the Deerfield River, a run up the steep take-out hill, and a 8 mile bike ride.\u00c2\u00a0 The course was short, I figured it would &hellip;
