\"OLYMPUS<\/a><\/p>\n

It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s become common knowledge that Pucon, Chile is a prime whitewater kayaking destination .\u00c2\u00a0 Here\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s my opinionated list of the top ten things to do while visiting Pucon with photos to prove that although it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s just my opinion, atleast I am basing it off of prior experience.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

#1 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c The Palguin \u00e2\u20ac\u201c The Upper Palguin is short, waterfall packed river perfect for talking about how many laps you will run, but realistically hiking up once and deciding to just paddle downstream slower next time. I highly recommend racing the Boatercross for the spectator\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s carnage lust satisfaction and running the Middle so you can sleep at night.\u00c2\u00a0 Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t forget there is<\/i> a Lower Palguin and it is<\/i> fun.<\/p>\n

#2 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c The Nevados \u00e2\u20ac\u201c The Palguin isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t the only run with copious clean waterfalls.\u00c2\u00a0 The Nevados is rain dependant and consequently slightly more elusive, but it does begin with a sweet, lap-able slide.<\/p>\n

#3 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Puesco \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Run the top thru the bottom or middle and lower or I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t know what the sections are called, but, put-in at the bridge and take out when the rapids stop.\u00c2\u00a0 It gurantees the most boofs per mile and to leave a smile on your face.<\/p>\n

#4 \u00e2\u20ac\u201cRent a car -\u00c2\u00a0 It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s fun being a kayak bum, but in a place swelling with kayakers it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not rare for there to be more people who want to go boating than there are spaces in cars actually going boating.\u00c2\u00a0 It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a good way to ensure kayaking success and a whole new of car issue-induced headaches.<\/p>\n

Red Fiats do not like sand siphons<\/p>\n

#5 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Turbio \u00e2\u20ac\u201c It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s right outside of town and you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll drive over it multiple times a day.\u00c2\u00a0 Most of the time it will be way too low until that rare event when you find it roosting high.\u00c2\u00a0 The Turbio flashes, so later that day when you drive past it will again most likely be too low.\u00c2\u00a0 But, if you do catch it, there is a well defined trail to hike to the put-in. \u00c2\u00a0 I have no idea how long it takes because we lost the trail before we even began our hike and spent copious amounts of time scrambling through Chilean jungle gnar.\u00c2\u00a0 Our approach is not recommended unless you are looking for that special situation to foster team bonding.<\/p>\n

\"DCIM101GOPRO\"<\/a><\/p>\n

#6 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Trancura -\u00c2\u00a0 Pucon Kayak Hostel<\/a> is the Pucon\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s little sister siphon.\u00c2\u00a0 It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s an incredible spot to sleep, asado, and meet up with other kayakers.\u00c2\u00a0 Coincidently it is also the take-out for the Upper Trancura or the put-in for the lower. \u00c2\u00a0 Life doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t get much easier than that.<\/p>\n

#7 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Rio Plata \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Rio Plata is one of those rivers best left to your imagination. \u00c2\u00a0 Wonder why a place so beautiful right outside of town isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t more frequently hiked into.\u00c2\u00a0 The guidebook\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s caption reads, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153 looking for silver, but finding gold on the Rio Plata.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00c2\u00a0 I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m not sure the author ran the river.\u00c2\u00a0 But, then again, there were plenty of people who\u00c2\u00a0 revealed to us their less than fond opinions only after we spent 3 hours hiking to the river and another 5 navigating siphons, undercuts, and logs.\u00c2\u00a0 But, Rodrigo<\/a> loves it and it is beautiful.\u00c2\u00a0 So, you should probably just ignore me.<\/p>\n

#8 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Mamas Y Tapas \u00e2\u20ac\u201c It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s ridiculously expensive and nights somehow end at the time you should be getting up to go to work.\u00c2\u00a0 But, you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re a kayak bum who doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t work, so it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s irressistable.<\/p>\n

#9 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Tres Saltos – Sit around Ecole sipping coffee and staring at facebook, while occasionally discussing what should be done on this cold, dreary, high water day.\u00c2\u00a0 Next, you should drive to Tres Saltos because it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s been pissing rain for 3.5 weeks straight and today could be the day it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s actually running.\u00c2\u00a0 The third salto is too low and driving to scout a river is essentially the same as kayaking, so it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s probably time to call it quits for the day, return to Pucon, and enjoy\u00c2\u00a0 2 for 1 schopps at Latitude.<\/p>\n

#10 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Escape the Siphon \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Life in Pucon is phenomenal, but it can be a bit of a siphon of time and money.\u00c2\u00a0 So, I highly recommend not just talking about leaving the vortex and exploring other rivers, but actually doing it.\u00c2\u00a0 Chile is a big ole country full of waterfalls, big water classics, and countless first descents.<\/p>\n
